Advisory Board

The medical professionals and researchers who guide our content.

Why an Advisory Board Matters

Publishing health-related content carries a responsibility that we take seriously. While our editorial team conducts thorough research using peer-reviewed sources, the nuances of clinical medicine, pharmacology, and patient care require expertise that goes beyond literature review.

Our advisory board provides that expertise. Board members review content for medical accuracy, flag emerging research that should be incorporated, and help ensure that our educational material reflects the current state of clinical knowledge — including its limitations.

An advisory board also provides accountability. When qualified professionals put their name alongside our content, they have a professional stake in its accuracy. That creates a standard of rigor that benefits every reader.

Roles We Are Filling

We are seeking advisors across several disciplines to ensure our content reflects the full spectrum of relevant expertise:

Medical Professionals

  • Physicians with clinical experience in cannabis medicine, pain management, neurology, psychiatry, or internal medicine
  • Pharmacists with expertise in drug interactions and cannabinoid pharmacology
  • Nurses and nurse practitioners who work with patients using medicinal cannabis, particularly in palliative care, oncology, or pain management settings

Researchers

  • Cannabis researchers actively involved in clinical trials, epidemiological studies, or basic science related to the endocannabinoid system
  • Public health researchers studying cannabis use patterns, harm reduction, and population-level outcomes
  • Pharmacologists with expertise in cannabinoid pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

Patient Advocates

  • Patient advocacy leaders who represent the perspectives and concerns of people using medicinal cannabis
  • Social workers or counselors who work with patients navigating the medical cannabis system
  • Health equity advocates who can help ensure our content is inclusive and accessible to underserved communities

Legal and Regulatory Advisors

  • Attorneys specializing in cannabis law and regulatory compliance
  • Policy analysts who track state and federal cannabis legislation

What Advisory Board Members Do

  • Review content within their area of expertise before publication
  • Flag factual errors, misleading framing, or outdated information
  • Recommend emerging research and clinical developments for coverage
  • Participate in quarterly content audits for their subject area
  • Provide guidance on how to communicate complex topics in accessible, accurate language

Advisory board membership is a voluntary, part-time commitment. Board members are not employees of TryCannabis.org and do not control editorial decisions. Their role is to advise, review, and inform — the editorial team retains final responsibility for all published content.

Disclosure Policy

Transparency about potential conflicts of interest is essential. Every advisory board member is required to:

  • Disclose all industry relationships — including consulting arrangements, research funding, speaking fees, equity positions, or employment relationships with cannabis companies, pharmaceutical companies, or related entities.
  • Update disclosures annually — or immediately if a new relationship is established.
  • Recuse themselves from reviewing content where a conflict of interest exists. For example, a board member who consults for a CBD company would not review our content on CBD efficacy.

All disclosures will be published on this page alongside each board member's profile, so readers can evaluate potential biases for themselves.

Our standard: Having an industry relationship does not disqualify someone from serving on our board — the cannabis medicine field is small, and many of the most knowledgeable experts have some industry involvement. What matters is transparency. If a board member has a potential conflict, readers will know about it.

Interested in Joining?

We are particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Have relevant clinical, research, or advocacy experience
  • Are comfortable with an editorial approach that acknowledges both the potential benefits and the limitations of cannabis
  • Value intellectual honesty over advocacy — our goal is accurate information, not promotion
  • Are willing to disclose industry relationships transparently
