Our Mission

Why TryCannabis.org exists and what we stand for.

Why This Platform Exists

Millions of adults are curious about medicinal cannabis. Some have tried every pharmaceutical option their doctors can offer and are still suffering. Some are managing with medications that work but carry side effects they find difficult to live with. Some have heard anecdotal stories from friends or family and want to know whether there is real science behind the claims.

All of these people deserve a reliable place to learn — one that does not have a financial incentive to oversell cannabis, does not dismiss legitimate questions, and does not pretend the science is more settled than it actually is.

That is why TryCannabis.org exists.

Our Mission

TryCannabis.org is a free, research-backed educational resource for adults exploring medicinal cannabis as a complement or alternative to pharmaceutical treatments. We prioritize honest, balanced information — acknowledging both the potential benefits and the limitations of current research — so that visitors can make informed decisions in partnership with their healthcare providers.

Our promise: We will never tell you cannabis is a miracle cure. We will never tell you it is worthless. We will tell you what the best available evidence says, where the gaps in that evidence are, and what questions you should be asking your doctor.

What We Are

  • Free education. Every page on this site is freely accessible. There are no paywalls, no premium tiers for basic health information, and no required accounts.
  • Cited sources. Our content is built on peer-reviewed research, clinical guidelines, and expert analysis. When we make a claim, we show you where it comes from. When the evidence is limited, we say so.
  • Honest about limitations. A 2025 JAMA review of more than 2,500 studies made it clear that cannabis research has significant gaps, and that the evidence does not support many of the broad claims made about medicinal cannabis. We do not sweep those findings under the rug. We lead with them, because an informed reader is a safer reader.
  • Approachable. We write in plain language. No jargon without explanation, no condescension toward people who are new to this topic, and no assumptions about your experience level or reasons for being here.
  • Inclusive. We welcome people of all backgrounds, regardless of whether they ultimately decide cannabis is right for them. Our goal is informed decision-making, not conversion.

What We Are Not

  • We are not a dispensary. TryCannabis.org does not sell cannabis products. We do not operate a storefront, marketplace, or product catalog. We have no financial relationship with any cannabis retailer.
  • We are not an advocacy or lobbying organization. While we believe adults should have access to accurate information about cannabis, we are not campaigning for legalization, promoting a political agenda, or affiliated with any political organization.
  • We are not a source of medical advice. Nothing on this site is a substitute for a conversation with a qualified healthcare provider. We provide educational context so that conversation can be more productive, but we do not diagnose, prescribe, or recommend specific treatments.
  • We are not funded by product sales. Our editorial decisions are not influenced by cannabis companies, pharmaceutical companies, or any entity with a commercial interest in what we publish.

How We Are Different

The cannabis information landscape is crowded, but most existing platforms have structural conflicts of interest that shape the information they provide:

Platform Primary Focus How TryCannabis.org Differs
Leafly Product reviews, dispensary finder We are education-only with no product sales or dispensary revenue
Weedmaps Dispensary marketplace We have no commercial incentive tied to product purchases
Project CBD CBD-focused education We cover full-spectrum cannabinoid education, not just CBD
WebMD / Healthline General health with some cannabis pages We offer deeper, dedicated cannabis education without pharma ad conflicts
State .gov sites Regulatory compliance and basic info We provide warmer, more comprehensive guidance beyond just the rules

When a dispensary website tells you cannabis helps with anxiety, ask yourself: do they make money when you buy cannabis for anxiety? When a pharmaceutical-funded health site downplays cannabis research, ask yourself: do their advertisers benefit from that framing?

We built TryCannabis.org specifically so that you would not have to ask those questions here.

Our Commitment to Honesty

The most important thing TryCannabis.org can do is be honest. The 2025 JAMA review of more than 2,500 studies made it clear that cannabis research has significant gaps, and that the evidence does not support many of the broad claims made about medicinal cannabis. At the same time, millions of people report genuine benefit, and there are specific conditions where the evidence is strong.

A platform that acknowledges both realities will build more trust — and ultimately help more people — than one that oversells cannabis as a cure-all or dismisses it as snake oil.

The goal is not to convince anyone to use cannabis. The goal is to make sure that anyone who is considering it has access to the best available information.

The bottom line: Cannabis is not for everyone. But for those it might help, they deserve a reliable place to learn.

For Adults Only

All information on TryCannabis.org is intended exclusively for adults aged 21 and older, in jurisdictions where cannabis use is legal. We take this seriously. Cannabis affects the developing brain differently than the adult brain, and the research on risks for younger users is considerably more concerning than the research on adult use. We do not provide information intended to help minors access cannabis, and we support age verification as a basic responsibility for any cannabis education platform.
